| Freshman Wildcats come up short against Plymouth |

Cathy Schram October 18, 2009 Novi’s freshman football squad took on Plymouth on October 15th in a Kensington Valley Conference cross over game at Novi. The game, played in rainy, cold conditions saw a tough battle with Plymouth wining 12 – 6. Novi started off the game with a solid offensive drive moving the ball on the ground with carries by Matt Forche, Michael Smith and Kyle Matel. Quarterback Blake Boron converted a third down and long completing an 8 yard pass to Brian Bonnell for a first down. Novi’s drive stalled on the Plymouth 24 yard line and the defense took over. The Novi defense stopped the Rock’s with tackles by Jon Mencer, Mario Ferrini and Rob Armiak. Plymouth fumbled there punt attempt and Novi recovered on the Plymouth 3 yard line. Boron converted the miscue into six points for Novi with a quarterback sneak, making it 6 -0 Novi. The extra point attempt was no good. Both sides battled it out the remainder of first half. Novi won the field position battle with solid punting from Mario Ferrini and excellent coverage by special team players. Plymouth scored in the second quarter with a 51 yard end around run. Their try for a two point conversion failed making the score at half time 6 -6. In the second half both teams played tough as the rain continued to fall. Plymouth scored on a long play making it 12 – 6 in their favor. Novi’s defense was lead by tackles from Riki Nogami, Alex Turner, Gentry Oden and Michael Smith. Novi’s final offensive drive, lead by Tre Cadwell came up short making the final Plymouth 12 – Novi 6. The freshmen finish out the season on October 22nd at home versus Pinckney. |
